"Kadupul"- The Mystic Plant

Today, it is going to be about "Kadupul".

I have a bushy "Kadupul" plant which hangs freely in our mango tree. We tied a small stem of a Kadupul plant with some coconut husks to our mango tree. This is 7 or 8 years back and it is still hanging there with out due care from us.

See how it is being hanging there.....................

Kadupul is a kind of a cactus plant, so that the stems can be planted with out  much effort. The flowers of this plant usually blooms at night. Around 8pm-9pm. So you won't be able to see blooming flowers in the morning. Here is one of the photos I took when I caught one of them..........

'Kadupul' plant doesn't need much sun light. So hang it in a shady place. Water them regularly so it will grow healthily. It doesn't need soil or fertilizer to grow. Some coconut husks can handle such needs. However some fertilizer will not spoil the plant as well.

Some consider 'Kadupul' as a kind of mystic flowers. It is considered as the legendary flower of the Celestial Nagas. And there is a belief that Nagas come down from their celestial abodes when these flowers bloom, so that they can offer 'Kadupul' to lord Budda. However, it is considered as a rare experience to see Kadupul bloom. So try to grow this mystic plant with out much effort and tranquilize your selves.............

Gardenia - Can never be hidden from you...

Today I thought of writing about Gardenia, a flower which can never be hidden from you.

Why I say like that..............? Because gardenia's fragrance let us find the "hidden beauty". Have you ever enjoyed the fragrance of a gardenia flower just by looking at it without smelling it? That is possible......You will never ever need to go near and smell it.It has a really mild fragrance which will forget you where you are. The smell obviously creates tranquility in your mind.

A photo of a Gardenia flower which I took a few days ago is available bellow......... !!!

Gardenia

Gardenia plant grows as a medium sized tree if it is given enough fertilizer, space and sun. I have a nice gardenia plant which has grown up to a medium sized tree. I have seen gardenia flowers bloom through out the year. It loves partial sun exposure, more water and lot of space.

I don't really need to give much attention to my gardenia tree, as it gives me less trouble. Actually it doesn't need any special care at all.

What you only have to do is, giving it sufficient water when earth is dry, so that it will continuously bloom in the dry season..............

So plant gardenias with less hassle and enjoy it's fragrance............!!!!!!

Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow...fragrance you'l never forget !!!

Today I remembered this "Yesterday Today and Tomorrow" plant in my home because I came across LOTS........ of those in a plant exhibition. That is a really nice plant which gives us a five petal flower. So what is interesting about this plant? What drove me to WRITE about it....??

Its the flower which drove me to write this post. "Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" plant has a flower which changes its colour according to the days it lasts.????mmm... Confused?

If I explain it in simple terms, it last for three days. The flower is purple in colour on the first day that it blooms. Then in the next day, it becomes light purple. And in the third day it becomes white. That is how the plant got it's name.

How ever when it blooms, it gives out a fragrance that we will never forget. And it is really nice to see the flowers from here and there covering the whole tree. Some are are purple and some are white. Like a MAGIC plant.

This "YTT" ( lets shorten the name), flower really likes sun exposure. I have grown mine under a shade, on earth. It gives out flowers occasionally. It is seated under our mango tree. When we trim our mango tree, then YTT gives out a lot of flowers. So........, to me it is obvious that YTT loves sun.

How can we reproduce YTT? Well, it is said that YTT can be grown by seating it's branches on soil. I haven't tried this. And tomorrow I am going to try it... Then I'l update this post when it grows well.

My YTT plant is a big one. I am going to try seating on a flower pot tomorrow. I have seen YTTs grown in small scales, inside the flower pots.So let me try tomorrow.

Here is a picture of some YTT flowers of mine. Have a look at it. Hope you get it's lovely fragrance too.

Grow Aalanga and Relieve Your Stress !!!!

Lets break the chain of roses and move into another interesting flower. Today when I returned home after a busy day, I came across this BIG flower, what we call it "Aalangaa". Lets say.......It is exactly the size of a saucer (from cup and saucer).

Have you seen an "Aalanga" before? If you haven't, have a look bellow....I took a photo of it.

I took this photo a little while ago....

Aalanga

Do you know that "Aalanga" plant can be grown by it's seeds. The seeds of an "Aalanga" plant is exactly equal to the size of a tooth. It looks like a tooth as well.....My father had got some seeds of "Aalanga" from an Aunt next door. I started planting them.

First of all I seated the seeds in a pot and kept it in a shady place. It grew sooner, poped up the leaves in couple of days and tried to climb up. But then what happened is.......it's leaves were eaten by pests. So I took the pot to a place where direct sun light peeps.

Usually the "Aalanga" blooms at the evening. Around 4' O clk and wither before morning. So in the morning you won't be able to see it.  The flower is of  gramophone shape.

Even it blooms at night, I feel it need lot of sun to give out a flower. Because when I was looking after "Alanga" in the shady place, it did not gave out flowers. So try to plant it in a shady place at the beginning and move to sun when it grows up...Try to grow some. You will be able to release your stress if you can see one. (Telling from my own experiences.....)

Growing Your Roses

I really like to watch growing roses. Not merely the roses but any other plant in this world!!! I like to feed them with care and see the flowers blooming..... Sometimes ago when I started growing roses, some way other my roses did not last for years. I had rose plants which did not bear roses for years. And I also had roses which lived for sometime and left me alone.
I thought that the rose plants which did not gave me roses might lack the required amount of water or fertilizer. So what I did was removing them from the big pots that I planted them and seated them on earth. But what happened was unbearable. They died after sometime.
I realized that I can not grow roses. But my love for roses did never fade away. One day when my boy friend returned from Nuwara-Eliya he brought me a set of rose plants. Two of them were big reds and one of them is a big pink. I was showered with joy when I received them and I again got a kick to grow roses. I referred a lot of online materials and merged my experience of growing roses and other plants . And I realized the terrific mistakes I did when growing my oldies. If I list them one by one for your benefit, then they are as bellow;
  • Did not control the amount of water they had
  • Did never under go any regular feeding (fertilizer) methods.
  • Did not consider about the optimum sun exposure.
  • Did not look in to the leaves to see whether they are growing any fungus.
I had a nice picture of an old rose plat which bore flowers for sometime and left me alone. This is also a one that I planted on earth after removing from a pot.!!!!

Red Rose

I will come up with more planting tips in my next blog !!!
